Adapting characters from Jane Austen's much loved tale, this novel takes Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy on a much different journey than Austen did in Pride and Prejudice.

Through their fathers' friendship, Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy meet as children. Over the years, their feelings for each other grow and they promise themselves to each other, but unfortunate circumstances and interfering family members seek to keep them apart.

Will misunderstandings and mistaken impressions divide Elizabeth and William forever?

I loved the beginning of this story. The young Elizabeth and Darcy at their first meeting were simply delightful. Several years later they met again and this was so much fun. I was intrigued at the way this feisty Lizzy spoke, her use of language and her reasoning skills. She was adorable and an absolute nightmare to her mother’s sensibilities. Again, years later, a much more mature Elizabeth was reacquainted with young Darcy on his return from his Grand Tour. The sparks flew and love was in the air.

“Promise keeping is a powerful means of grace in a time when people hardly depend on each other to remember and live by their word.” Lewis B. Smedes

Enter tragedy, death, deception, cruelty, theft, treachery, manipulation, feelings of abandonment, angst of the cruelest kind and you have the sufferings of our dear couple. This angst was horrible. We have our couple separated by the cruelest means and it was years before it was clarified.

Caroline was horrid and what she attempted was hilarious. Her every action against Elizabeth or Darcy backfired and in a big way.

The Earl of Matlock and Lacy Catherine were EVIL personified. They were horrid and not very nice at all. I was surprised they would go to the lengths and measures that they did to separate Darcy from the Bennets. It was horrible for him to realize his own family would betray him.

“A promise must never be broken.” Alexander Hamilton

The reviews have explained it far better than I can. I loved the story and the epilogue [both of them]. Yeah, Elizabeth was a bit much; however, this was a variation and the author has the license to stretch probability to its limits. I thought it was clean and very creative in the execution.

It's hard to rate this novel because the angst level was actually a bit to much for me. Would have liked to give it 3.5 stars.
Admit to leaf trough at least 20% of it because for the first time, the angst level was too high. The plot however is unique and thrilling. The author writes incredibly well, which draws you into the story.
The romantic parts are a bit to sugary for me. I have noticed that some of the authors with high skills in the angst writing department, often tend to sugar their romantic parts to much...
Elizabeth in this novel are super human with superior skills in almost every area. That differs from my perception of her.
OK .... Lizzy is a super genius who not only plays chess, she wrestles, fences, speaks seven different languages, has a photographic memory so she can recall perfectly every page of every book she has ever read and every conversation she has ever had, she is as good as any apothecary so that she is able to reset shoulders that go out of joint, converses knowledgeably on politics - war strategies - ladies fashions, ad nauseam. Are you sick of Lizzy yet? There's more. This Darcy/Lizzy love story is pure treacle that will make your jaws ache! And get this ... Darcy sweats his wedding night worse than any maiden because our Super-girl Lizzy has read some of her father's verboten how-to books on lovemaking ... Books subsequently given to Darcy by Mr. Bennet which has Darce wondering if he'll be able to satisfy her on their wedding night. A previous reviewer called this book improbable ... I would say it's downright ridiculous!
As a true JAFF fan, I love it when authors go outside of the box and bring us totally different ideas for the P&P family. Wendi Sotis does that in this enchanting story of Lizzy and Darcy meeting when they were young and establishing a relationship that had real promise to become serious when they matured. As usual they were not similar in personality but both were verly intelligent individuals who enjoyed each others company. I like that Mr. Bennett was a reasonable man who resigned his Cambridge professorship to take over the Longbourn estate at the death of his elder brother. He had a close friendship with George Darcy, also from Eton andCambridge, and their families occasionally visited. The one saving Fitzwilliam relative was the Colonel, so glad Darcy had him since the Darcy relatives were scarce.

George Darcy had been diagnosed with a fatal illness and he asked his friend Thomas Bennet to come to Pemberley to familiarize himself with the estate so he could help young Fitzwilliam (William) Darcy assume his position as master upon his father's death. With the help of Bennet and the awesome steward, Mr. Wickham, the transition should have been a smooth one for the young William Now the story really begins.....

Let me say that things did not go as planned and the Fitzwilliam family arrived immediately to prevent any assistance from the "lowly" Bennet family. At least George Darcy had warned his son to avoid the advice of the his mother's family at all cost. It takes William a little while to rid Pemberley of their influence, but he matured fast. Some have said the young William Darcy was wimpy and not the strong character we see in P&P. I beg to differ. This young Darcy had to start without the assistance of trusted mentors and in the midst of a family intent on controlling everything immediately. That was a lot for a young man to deal with...in P&P the only evil relative was Catherine...not so here. I think the Darcy character shows a real maturity to overcome "everything" he faced in a short period of time. The real topper to it all was the event in mid-May!!!
The conspiracy was so thorough that it did indeed sever the ties with the Bennet family completely without either side knowing it was being done. One need only consider the poor methods of communication at that time to really understand how this could have transpired.

When all hope seem lost for our precious Lizzy and Darcy, Charles Bingley comes to the rescue by leasing Neatherfield...Yea. Finally some of the misconceptions and misunderstanding could be addressed. True love never dies. It only needs a breath of wind to sweep across the bank embers and it leaps back to life again.

I like this pert, intelligent Lizzy. Some have said she is too perfect. I disagree. She was exceptionally smart but such a tomboy that you love her immediately. Commanding a band of neighborhood "pirates", climbing trees, fencing and wrestling with the local boys was not what one would call a perfect daughter in any era. That title always goes to Jane. Darcy and Bennet saw the sparks from the first meeting of their young children. Only time would tell if this would grow into the deep loving relationship each father wanted for their child. Time was indeed of the essence in this story....You might say that time was the silent character Wendi used so effectively to develop this what-if.
This had so much angst! It reminded me a little of a soap opera. With a little more communication we would not be in this situation. It was definitely a difficult situation with everyone assuming the worst. I'll admit the premise was a little far fetched but it was well written and it most definitely held my attention! Elizabeth was almost too perfect but her perfection suited the story. I especially liked when Elizabeth and Darcy were young, it was definitely sweet reading about them as children.
